Announcing Readiness for AI THAILAND FORUM 2024

(1 August 2024) At the lobby of the NSTDA Research Building (Yothi), Bangkok: The Artificial Intelligence Entrepreneur Association of Thailand (AIEAT) and the Artificial Intelligence Association of Thailand (AIAT) held a press conference announcing AI THAILAND FORUM 2024 under the theme "Sustainable Growth with AI: Driving Thailand toward Sustainable Growth with Artificial Intelligence," together with the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) and SCB X Public Company Limited (SCBX). The event aims to raise awareness of applying artificial intelligence to develop and support the country's sustainable growth across the economic, social, and environmental sectors. It will be held on 25–26 October 2024 at Samyan Mitrtown, Bangkok. On this occasion, executives from the key supporting organizations joined the press conference and a panel discussion on the topic "Sustainable Growth with AI: Driving Thailand toward Sustainable Growth with Artificial Intelligence."
Dr. Thepchai Supnithi, Vice President of the Artificial Intelligence Association of Thailand (AIAT), said that the previous AI THAILAND FORUM 2023 was a great success thanks to the cooperation of partner networks from both the public and private sectors, reflecting a strong commitment to driving Thailand's AI ecosystem. AIAT focuses on developing AI personnel to be a key force in national development through the "Super AI Engineer" project, now in its fourth consecutive year, which has produced over 30,000 people with AI knowledge and expertise. The project's curriculum emphasizes hands-on practice and is suitable for learners at every level, from beginners to specialized experts, and also includes courses for the general public to build a learning society and sustainably develop the AI workforce at all levels.
Dr. Kobkrit Viriyayudhakorn, President of the Artificial Intelligence Entrepreneur Association of Thailand (AIEAT), said this event will be an important stage for seeking opportunities and possibilities to support Thai AI entrepreneurs, a key factor in driving the country's AI ecosystem. AIEAT focuses on strengthening the capabilities and potential of entrepreneurs at every level so they can grow and succeed sustainably, through various programs offering consulting, training, and support in funding sources and access to business networks. The event also features an awards ceremony for those with outstanding AI achievements, to honor their success and inspire all developers to create new innovations that will continue to drive Thailand sustainably.
Professor Dr. Chukit Limpijumnong, Director of the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), said that following the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI)'s "MHESI for AI" policy — which uses the ministry's AI potential to address personnel shortages and AI application — work proceeds along three pillars:
- AI for Education: Using AI in teaching and learning to give Thai people the highest potential, as fast as possible.
- AI workforce development: Developing AI personnel and building an AI foundation for Thai people in the education system and the labor market.
- AI innovation: Supporting AI innovation to market, developing standards and testing, and promoting widespread adoption to elevate the Thai economy.
As co-secretary of the committee driving the National AI Action Plan for Thailand's Development, NSTDA plays a key role in advancing the "National Artificial Intelligence Action Plan for Thailand's Development over six years (2022–2027)," to create and promote an ecosystem for the effective development and application of AI technology, raising the country's competitiveness in every dimension and leading to improvements in the economy and people's quality of life through five strategies, while also serving as one of the mechanisms supporting the MHESI for AI policy. Given this role and the vision of AI-based national development that aligns with the AI Thailand Forum 2024 theme "Sustainable Growth with AI," it is a great opportunity for NSTDA to present progress in driving the AI Action Plan over the past two years, with significant results in areas such as ethics and governance, infrastructure, workforce development, and innovation and application.
Mr. Kaweewut Temphuwapat, Head of SCBX R&D Innovation Lab, SCB X Public Company Limited (SCBX), said that Thailand has fully entered the digital era and artificial intelligence (AI) plays a major role in driving the country's economy and society. Building a strong AI ecosystem is therefore key to sustainable national development, which requires cooperation from all sectors — government, private sector, educational institutions, and the public — to jointly create and develop AI innovations that meet the country's needs. SCBX is committed to being part of driving the nation's AI ecosystem, whether through investment in research and development — most recently launching the "Typhoon" Large Language Model for the Thai language, available for free as a base-version model that can be customized and built upon as needed — or through partnerships and funding for various organizations to research and develop technologies that benefit the public at large. This collaboration with AIAT, AIEAT, and NSTDA is an important step in driving the country's AI ecosystem. SCBX believes that integrating the AI ecosystem will be a key to driving Thailand's growth in the future. SCBX is ready to cooperate with all sectors to create a society driven by responsible and sustainable AI technology, and hopes to help Thai researchers, startups, and investors build strong and sustainable networks in the future.
